Economy Desk: This time the stock market is in a downward trend. Declining transactions, valuation and market capitalization. Share prices of 320 companies on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell last week. In this, the price index decreased by 141 points and the market capitalization decreased by Tk 12 thousand crores. Those concerned say that the stock market is down due to several reasons. Notable among these are the increase in interest rates of bank loans, the downward trend of the world economy and the negative economic condition of the country as a whole has affected the market. According to them, it is important to increase the confidence of investors to turn the stock market around.

4 thousand 53 crores were traded in DSE in 5 days last week. An average of Tk 810 crore was transacted daily. 3 thousand 508 crores were traded in 4 days last week. 877 crores per day on an average. According to this last week the transaction decreased by Tk 545 crore. However, the average daily transaction has increased by 67 crore rupees. The DSE Broad Index fell by 141 points to 6,112 points during the reporting period. DSE 30 index fell by 32 points to 2 thousand 92 points. The DSE Shariah Index rose by 23 points to 1,335 points. 411 companies participated in the transaction last week. Among them, the shares of 59 companies increased, 320 decreased and the shares of 22 companies remained unchanged. However, no shares of 10 companies were traded. At the beginning of last week, DSE's market capitalization was Tk 760,000 crore. By the end of the week, it had come down to 748 thousand crores. According to this, the market capital has decreased by 12 thousand crores.

As a standalone company, Sunlife Insurance's share price rose 18 percent last week. Also, shares of GQ Ballpen gained 16 percent, Golden Son 15 percent, Fine Food 13 percent, Phuang Ceramics 10 percent, Aftab Automobile 7 percent, Paramount Insurance 6 percent, Beacon Pharma 5 percent, Islami Bank Mudaraba Mutual Fund 5 percent and Alhaj Textile shares. Prices increased by 4 percent. Last week, the top 10 companies on the DSE were traded worth Tk 1,700 crore, which is 26.40 percent of the market's total turnover. Out of this, Phuang Ceramics in the first position traded Tk 208 crores, Central Pharma traded Tk 189 crores in the second position and Munnu Fabrics in the third position traded Tk 93 crores. Also, among other companies in the top ten, shares of Aftab Automobile 89 crore, Fortune Suze 89 crore, BD Thai Aluminum 87 crore, Best Holdings 84 crore, Phuang Food 79 crore, City General Insurance 75 crore and British-American Tobacco 72 crore were traded.
