Husband sentenced to death for killing his wife in Bogra

Sanju Roy, Bogra: The court sentenced husband Sobhan Ali to death after nearly 9 and a half years of trial for the murder of his wife in Sonatala, Bogra. Convicted Sobhan killed his wife for not getting the society's money. Judge Begum Rubaiya Yasmin of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court of Bogra gave this judgment around 12:30 on Thursday. Accused Sobhan Ali was present in the court when the verdict was announced. Convicted Sobhan Ali is a resident of Sonakania village in Sonatala and the deceased wife's name is Sultana Ruma. It is known that Ruma was strangled to death on the night of November 18, 2012. Later, her husband Sobhan Ali cut her throat and left the body. The next day, Ruma's mother Rokeya Begum filed a case in Sonatala Police Station as the plaintiff. The judgment was given on Thursday in that case. Additional PP Padma Kumar Dev confirmed this information. Regarding the case, the lawyer said that Sobhan had a relationship with Ruma for about 15 years. After about seven years of married life, they have a child. But after a day that child died. After this incident, Sobhan used to beat his wife Ruma. Besides, Sobhan used to talk about bringing money from Ruma's father's house. At some point on the night of November 18, 2012, Sobhan demanded money from Ruma to give to the association. Sobhan strangled Ruma to death when she refused to pay. Later in the morning, the husband cut Ruma's throat with a sharp weapon and dumped the body in the yard in front of the house. APP Padma also said that when Ruma's family came on hearing the news, the husband ran away from home. Ruma's mother Rokeya Begum later went to the police station and filed a murder case. Later, when Sobhan was arrested in this incident, he also gave a confessional statement in court. He said that after a long hearing in this case, Additional District and Sessions Judge Judge Begum Rubaiya Yasmin announced the death sentence to the accused Sobhan on Thursday. Apart from this, the judge also fined the defendant 20,000 taka.
