Weight gain by pushing jelly on prawn fish in Bogra: Trader fined

Sanju Roy, Bogra: The National Directorate of Consumer Rights (NDRC) on Tuesday raided Fateh Ali Bazar in the city on charges of cheating customers by pushing jelly on prawns and making them gain weight. A fishmonger was fined Tk 10,000 in the raid and around 20 kg of jellied prawns were also destroyed. Iftekharul Alam Rizvi, assistant director of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, Bogra, who is leading the operation, said that based on confidential information, they came to know that some traders in Bogra's Fateh Ali market are selling shrimp jelly by pushing jelly in fish for extra profit. Common buyers are being cheated by this. Taking this issue into consideration, they conducted a sudden operation in public interest. Shakil Fish House of Bazar was fined Tk. At the same time, about 20 kg of jelly fish from that shop was destroyed. He said, such operations will continue in public interest. The members of the law enforcement agencies cooperated in the operation.
