45 thousand rupees fine for illegal netting and shrimp jelly in Satkania

Ramzan Ali, Satkania (Chittagong): A total fine of Tk 45,000 was paid for finding illegal nets and shrimp jelly in the mobile court of Satkania upazila administration during National Fisheries Week. On Monday (July 25), the upazila administration fined Kanchana and Keranihat fish markets in Satkania upazila. A total fine of Tk 45,000 was imposed by the mobile court for selling illegal fishing current nets and illegal presence of jelly in prawns in Jotpukuria market and Keranihat market of Kanchana union of Satkania upazila. According to the upazila administration, 3 shops were fined a total of Tk 20,000 and 200,000 meters of current nets were seized as per the Fisheries Protection and Conservation Act, 1950 for illegally selling fishing current nets in the Jotpukuria market of Kanchana Union. According to the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, 3 shops were fined a total of Tk 25,000 and 14 kg of prawns were seized. In the presence of everyone, the seized nets were burnt in the premises of the Upazila Parishad and the shrimps were buried in the ground. Satkania Upazila Executive Officer Fatema-Tuz-Zohra conducted the mobile court in the campaign. Satkania Upazila Fisheries Officer Saikat Sharma and members of police and Ansar forces were present at the time. Satkania Upazila Administration also said that this campaign will continue in the interest of the people.
