Husband sentenced to life imprisonment for killing wife

According to the case and court sources, Rahima Begum, daughter of Suruj Ali of the same village got married to Nurzzaman of Shalamara village in Velabari union of the upazila about a decade ago. They have one son and one daughter in their family. Nuruzzaman and Rahima used to have family quarrels over various family matters. Due to these quarrels, Nuruzzaman killed Rahima Begum and hid her in the drain of land. Rahima Begum's body was recovered from the drain on December 12, 2015. The next day, on December 13, Rahima Begum's father Suruj Mia filed a murder case with Aditmari police station. Akmal Hossain Ahmed, public prosecutor of the district and sessions judge's court, said the court had sentenced Nuruzzaman to life imprisonment and fined him for one more year for non-payment. The state has expressed satisfaction over the court's verdict. Defendant's lawyer said that according to the law, the appeal against the verdict will be appealed in the high court.
