Husband arrested within 24 hours of wife murder case in Gopalpur

Nur Alam, Gopalpur (Tangail): Police have arrested Sumon, 31, the only accused in a case filed against Gopalpur for allegedly strangling his wife Sunika to death within 24 hours. He was arrested from Gazipur on Monday in a special operation led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mosharraf Hossain. Sumon is the son of Arshed Ali of Laua village in Ghatail upazila. According to the case sources, Sumon got married to Sunika Khatun, 25, daughter of Dulal Hossain of Shimla Para in Hemnagar Union of Gopalpur Upazila on April 20, 2016 according to Islamic Shariah. After marriage, their marital life is divided. It is learned that Sunika is the second wife of the husband. Earlier, Sumon got married to another man. She has children in the house. That is why the husband is always in a quarrel with Sunika. A year ago, Sumika left Sunika in Shimlapara to take care of her family. And since then he would occasionally come to Sunika and often leave with bad behavior. On May 20, Sumon came to his father-in-law's house on a motorcycle as before and spent the night. The next day Sumon closed the door of the house and got into a quarrel with his wife and at one stage killed his wife. Hearing the sound of quarrel, Sunika's mother came and knocked on the door and entered the house and saw her lying on the bed. Sumon told her mother-in-law to enter the house and Sunika suddenly fell ill. He needs to see a doctor. Sumon fled on a motorcycle, telling the doctor to come. Later, Sunika's father Dulal Hossain filed a murder case with Gopalpur Police Station against Sumon as the sole accused. Officer-in-charge (OC) said. Mosharraf Hossain said that Gopalpur police arrested the accused Sumon from Gazipur after conducting a special operation within 24 hours of the case. He was later remanded in custody by the court on Monday afternoon.
