News Desk: On the occasion of National Mourning Day in Bangladesh and Independence Day of India, all kinds of import-export trade with the northeastern states of India through Akhaura land port of Brahmanbaria is closed on Sunday.

However, in the event of a coronavirus infection, normal passport holders will be stranded, but only passengers with diplomatic and official passports stranded in the two countries are returning home.

Mubarak Hossain Bhuiyan, president of the Akhaura Land Port C&F Agents Association and Shafiqul Islam, general secretary of the Port Importers and Exporters Association, confirmed the information.

They said all kinds of import-export activities through Akhaura land port are closed on Sunday on the occasion of National Mourning Day and Bangabandhu's 47th Martyrdom Anniversary and India's Independence Day.

The import-export trade will resume tomorrow, Monday morning, with the export of fish. The matter has already been decided in consultation with Indian businessmen.

Abdul Hamid, in-charge of Akhaura Immigration Check Post, told Jugantar that even though the import-export trade was closed on this route, it was normal for passengers stranded in the two countries to return home with diplomatic and official passports.
