Prominent agricultural scientist Professor. M. Afzal Hossain gets 'UGC Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Fellowship'

Mymensingh Correspondent: On the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, UGC Bangabandhu Fellow introduced by Bangladesh University Grants Commission has been selected as an internationally renowned nutritionist and eminent agricultural scientist and educator. M. Afzal Hossain. He joined the Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission on August 1, 2021. The Bangladesh University Grants Commission appointed him as a Fellow for the UGC Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Fellowship-2021 for the next one year to commemorate the invaluable contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the country's higher education.

He has been selected as UGC Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Fellow in the context of research proposal titled “Exploring the Potential of Suicides for Promoting the Blue Economy of Bangladesh”. If the immense potential of the Blue Economy is utilized properly, unemployment will be eliminated in the country, the economy will be dynamic and it will be easier to build a developed country by 2041 as announced by the Hon'ble Prime Minister. Professor. M. Afzal Hossain is a graduate of Bangladesh Agricultural University and a retired veteran professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biology. He served as the Vice Chancellor of Haji Mohammad Danesh University of Science and Technology in Dinajpur, the heart of higher education in North Bengal. He is currently serving as an advisor to Pundra University of Science and Technology and TMSS, a top private school in Bogra.

Dr. Afzal graduated from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1974 with a first class degree and a postgraduate degree in biochemistry in 1986. He received his PhD from the National Dairy Research Institute, Haryana, India in 1984 and completed his post-doctoral research in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Hawaii, USA in 1986 under the US-Aid Fellowship. In addition, under the EEC Postdoctoral Fellowship, he did one year of research at the Institute of Cellular and Molecular Pathology, Brussels, Belgium, in 1991.

Note that Professor. M. Afzal Hossain will conduct research work on the mentioned subject in Bangladesh Agricultural University as per the terms of the fellowship.
