'I will request the Prime Minister to reopen the Shyampur sugar mill'

Rangpur Bureau:  Leaders of Shyampur Sugar Mill Employees Union met Zakir Hossain Sarkar, Member of Parliament of Rangpur's Mithapukur Constituency, to request the resumption of Shyampur Sugar Mill, which has been suspended for a long time.

On Saturday (May 4) at noon, the leaders went to the MP's own residence in Durgapur Union of the upazila and requested him to tell the Parliament about the reopening of the closed sugar mills.

Member of Parliament Zakir Hossain Sarkar said, "I will request the Prime Minister to reopen the Shyampur sugar mill, the only heavy industry in Rangpur district, and will raise the issue in Parliament. He also said that the sugarcane farmers of Mithapukur have also demanded to start the sugar mills." 

President of Shyampur Sugar Mill Employees Union Aktarul Badsha, General Secretary Abu Sufian, Former General Secretary Shahjahan Sarkar D.B., President of Akhchashi Samiti Emdadul Haque, General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Sagar, Joint General Secretary Fazlur Rahman Sohag, President of Nagerhat Iksu Purchase Center Babu Singh Roy were present. President of Halim Balua Iksu Purchase Center Emdadul Haque, district Awami League member Rafiur Rahman Rafi, district student league organizing secretary Matiur Rahman Mahid and others.

Incidentally, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured that arrangements will be made for the reopening of the closed sugar mills in the Awami League divisional public meeting at the Rangpur Zilla School ground on August 2.
