Economy Desk:  Although high in the beginning, the prices of vegetables were on the downward trend towards the end of fasting. But after Eid, the vegetable market has become unstable again. Before and after Eid, the prices of most vegetables have increased by Tk 10 to Tk 20.

On Saturday (April 20), the picture was seen in different markets of the capital. Vendors say that the situation in the market is due to low supply and adverse weather conditions after Eid.

A visit to various markets in the capital showed that papaya, which was always within reach, is now being sold at Tk 50-60, which is in the range of Tk 40 most of the year. Apart from this, the price of potato per kg is being sold at the rate of Tk 50-60 per kg, which was between Tk 40-50 before Eid.

Besides, among the necessary vegetables, brinjal 70-80 taka, usta and karalla 80 taka, kankarol 100-120 taka, rice 50-60 taka, potal 60-80 taka, chichinga and dhundal 60-80 taka, shrimp 80-100 taka, barbati 60 taka. - 70 taka, kachur lathi 70-80 taka, sajon is being sold for 100-120 taka.

Muktar Hossain, a vegetable seller in Malibagh market, said that the supply of vegetables is low. Mokam has not yet accumulated properly. That is why the price has increased. However, after two or three days, there is a possibility that the price will decrease, he said.

Meanwhile, lemons are being sold at the rate of Tk 40 per half in the market. In some places, 60 rupees were also seen to be sold. Due to the intense heat, the demand for lemons has increased the prices, the sellers said.

Besides, tomatoes are being sold at Tk 50-60, cucumber at Tk 40-60, carrot at Tk 40-60.

Some sellers say that the price of vegetables is also increasing due to the increase in heat. Mintu, a vegetable seller, said that many days before Eid, people got vegetables at a low price, now they will increase a little. Due to the heat, many vegetables are getting spoiled, which is also a reason for the increase in prices.

Before Eid, a kg of local onion went down to Tk 50. It was bought between Tk 50 and Tk 52 per kg. But after Eid, the price started increasing. It has increased several times and now it is being sold at 60 to 65 taka per kg.

Regarding the price of potatoes and onions, Rampura market seller Majed Hossain said, there is no other option but to import potatoes and onions. The price has gone up since the beginning. The price in the market goes up and down. But not within reach.

Like onion, the price of ginger and garlic has also increased. Imported Chinese garlic is now selling at Tk 220 to Tk 230 and domestic garlic at Tk 150 to Tk 160 per kg. Before Eid, Chinese garlic was sold at Tk 190 to Tk 210 and desi garlic at Tk 120 to Tk 130. On the other hand, China ginger is being sold at Rs 220 to 230 per kg, increasing by Rs 20.
