Hamid appointed as new director of Islami Bank

News Desk: Professional chartered accountant and banker SM Abdul Hamid has been appointed as an independent director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited.

Earlier, Bangladesh Bank removed Md. Abdul Jalil from the bank’s board of directors. He was removed on Monday. Following the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024, he had been included as a member of the bank’s reconstituted board.

Abdul Hamid said his priority would be to strengthen the bank’s financial health. He added that there are certain priority areas identified by Bangladesh Bank, which will be determined after assessing the bank’s current condition. He expressed hope to help bring the bank into a stronger position.

Spokesperson and Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, Arifur Rahman Khan, said that the central bank appointed a new independent director as it deemed necessary, describing the move as part of routine operations.
