News Desk: Trading at the country’s main capital market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), ended lower across all indices on Thursday (19 February). The benchmark index, DSEX, fell by 53 points.
Around 80 percent of the companies that participated in trading saw their share prices decline. Compared to Wednesday, total market capitalization decreased, and trading turnover dropped to Tk 560 crore for the day.
At the close of trading, the DSEX fell by 53.20 points to end at 5,465.93 points. The DSES index declined by 10.18 points to 1,095.09 points, while the DS30 index fell by 12.16 points to 2,097.87 points.
A total of Tk 559.95 crore worth of shares were traded on the DSE on Thursday, compared to Tk 935.77 crore on Wednesday. Market capitalization stood at Tk 7,10,037.99 crore, down from Tk 7,13,708.09 crore the previous day. Of the 392 companies whose shares and units were traded, prices rose for 46, fell for 313, and remained unchanged for 33.
Shares of BRAC Bank topped the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 22.70 crore traded. Other companies among the top traded included Square Pharmaceuticals (Tk 19.41 crore), Olympic Industries (Tk 14.01 crore), Dhaka Bank (Tk 13.89 crore), Saiham Cotton Mills (Tk 13.71 crore), Pragati Life Insurance (Tk 13.43 crore), Orion Infusion (Tk 13.42 crore), Rahim Food (Tk 12.00 crore), Munnu Fabrics (Tk 11.43 crore), and City Bank (Tk 11.42 crore).
Shares of First Finance recorded the highest decline of the day, falling by 10 percent. Meanwhile, Rahima Food topped the gainers’ list, with its share price rising by 6.05 percent.
