Jamalpur Correspondent:
In Jamalpur, locals and students staged a human chain and blocked a highway, demanding the arrest of a man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl.

On Thursday (October 9) afternoon, residents of the Doripara area and students from various educational institutions blocked the Jamalpur–Sherpur–Tangail highway at the Doripara Bypass intersection.

The blockade, which lasted for about an hour, caused severe traffic congestion on both sides of the highway.

During the human chain, speakers said that on September 27, taking advantage of the absence of the child’s parents, neighbor Siddique raped the girl and fled the scene.

Although a case was filed with Jamalpur Police Station, police have yet to arrest the accused. The speakers warned that they would launch a tougher movement if he was not arrested soon.

To calm the situation, police arrived at the scene and assured the protesters that the accused would be arrested within 24 hours. Following the assurance, the residents withdrew their blockade and protest.

Regarding the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamalpur Police Station, Nazmus Sakib, said, “Upon receiving news of the road blockade, we immediately sent a team to the scene. We assured the protesters that the accused would be arrested soon. Afterwards, they themselves left the road.”
