Dohar (Dhaka) Reporter: A mobile court in Dohar, Dhaka, has sentenced five fishermen to jail for violating the ban on catching mother hilsa.
On Tuesday (7 October), a 10-hour operation was conducted at various points of the Padma River in Dohar. The fishermen were found catching mother hilsa in violation of the ban and were sentenced under different sections of the Fisheries Protection and Conservation Act.
During the operation, 2,000 meters of current nets and fishing trawlers were seized. The arrested individuals received varying jail terms, and the seized trawlers were sold in a public auction, with the proceeds deposited in the government treasury.
Dohar Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate of the mobile court, Tania Tabassum Toma, stated that such operations will continue in the public interest.
