Gazipur Correspondent: Sensation has spread in Kaliganj, Gazipur, after the body of a newborn baby girl was found in the toilet of Bismillah Diagnostic Center and Trauma General Hospital. Although the body was recovered from inside the hospital, the authorities have filed a police complaint claiming that “an unidentified person left the body there.”
Locals have criticized the incident as a sign of negligence and irresponsibility on the part of the hospital. They questioned how the body could be found inside the hospital while the case was filed against an “unknown person.”
Hospital authorities’ statement
Md. Shahid Munshi, director of the hospital, said that around 2:30 p.m. on Friday (October 3), a cleaner discovered the baby’s body wrapped in tissue paper inside a waste bin in the hospital toilet.
“After receiving the news, we rushed to the spot and examined the body. The baby was already dead,” he said.
He added that a piece of tissue had been stuffed into the baby’s mouth, and the umbilical cord was torn about two inches above the navel.
“We immediately informed the police and started reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital,” the director further said.
Police investigation
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Alauddin said that the hospital director filed a case against an unidentified accused. “The case has been recorded, but no one has been detained yet. Investigation is ongoing,” he said.
Health department response
Kaliganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Rezwana Rashid said, “I was not aware of the incident before, but now that I know, I will speak to the hospital authorities and take necessary action.”
