Kaliakair (Gazipur) Correspondent: For the first time in Kaliakair Upazila, Gazipur, the Tape Tennis BPL Cricket Tournament is set to take place. Scheduled to officially begin on November 22, the tournament has already created a festive atmosphere across the area.
On Friday (October 3) at 10:00 AM, officials inspected the field and progress of associated development works at the East Chandra Playground in Ward No. 8 of Kaliakair Municipality ahead of the upcoming tournament.
The inspection was led by Md. Sarwar Hossain Akul, chief advisor of East Chandra Sporting Club and former councillor. Present were teachers and professors from local educational institutions, notable residents, sports enthusiasts, and youth representatives.
During the inspection, members of the tournament organizing committee’s advisory board—including Professor S.M. Aminul Islam (Bhasha Shahid Ansar VDP School & College), Professor Md. Shajahan Ali (Government Shadat College, Kortia), S.M. Khalid Hossain (Head of Department, Political Science, Chandra Government College), East Chandra Sporting Club President Syed Sulaiman Hossain, and General Secretary Motaleb Hossain—along with print and electronic media journalists, toured the field.
The East Chandra Playground spans nearly three acres. Once a pond and drain where people dumped garbage, the site was gradually transformed into a sports field through the dedicated effort and care of Sarwar Hossain Akul. Today, it serves as the vibrant center of Kaliakair’s sports community.
According to organizers, this tournament marks the first time in the world that Tape Tennis BPL Cricket will be held on such a large scale. With international-standard arrangements, live broadcast on national television is planned. Renowned players from India and Pakistan are also expected to participate, alongside national players, offering spectators a unique sporting experience.
During the inspection, chief patron and field developer Md. Sarwar Hossain Akul told reporters, “Our primary goal is to encourage youth towards sports and away from drugs. This location, once a pond and garbage site, now hosts an international-standard field spanning three acres. The Tape Tennis BPL will not only be significant in Kaliakair and Bangladesh but also introduce a new chapter internationally. With participation from domestic and international players, spectators will enjoy a distinct sporting experience. Our aim is to foster a healthy and youth-friendly society through sports.”
The inaugural Tape Tennis BPL will feature eight divisions. Organizers say the event will play a vital role in inspiring local youth and promoting Tape Tennis as an internationally recognized sport.
Jointly organized by East Chandra Sporting Club and Tike Sports, the tournament has already generated widespread excitement in Kaliakair and surrounding areas. With field preparations nearly complete and favorable weather, the grand opening of the Tape Tennis BPL Cricket Tournament is set for November 22.
