The CCI's decision comes in the wake of WhatsApp's controversial updates and terms of service that had earlier sparked widespread criticism and concern among users and regulators alike, the report said.

CCI's Director General of Investigation (DG) submitted a report. It said that WhatsApp and its parent Meta violated the provisions of the Competition Act. which prevents abuse of dominance. Here is another draft. The draft also provides for penalizing organizations that are accused of violations. The report also said that the draft will be finalized and sent to the two organizations very soon.

What is WhatsApp saying?

The report mentions the statement of a spokesperson of WhatsApp. A WhatsApp spokesperson said, CCI proceedings are pending and we cannot comment on it. And the most important thing is that WhatsApp has also given the option to choose whether or not to update the privacy policy.

Even those who don't opt for this update will be able to keep in touch with their friends and family effortlessly through WhatsApp. There is no risk of their account being deleted or losing functionality.
