Ishwarganj (Mymensingh) Correspondent: The Upazila and municipal units of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a press conference in Ishwarganj, Mymensingh, regarding the recent law and order situation, political propaganda, and allegations of looting at an industrial establishment in Rahmatganj.

The press conference was held on Saturday night at the Ishwarganj Press Club hall. BNP leaders claimed that the deteriorating law and order situation in the upazila was due to the activities of fugitive “fascist forces” and activists of a banned organization.

Speaking at the press conference, AKM Harun-Or-Rashid, Joint Convener of Ishwarganj Upazila BNP, and Amirul Islam Bhuiyan Moni, Member Secretary of the upazila unit, said that since the political changeover on August 5, some overenthusiastic activists of the banned organization have been attempting to carry out criminal activities such as theft, robbery, and extortion in a planned manner.

They also alleged that attempts were being made to intimidate ordinary people and spread defamatory content on social media to damage the image of the current Member of Parliament, BNP, and its affiliated organizations.

The BNP leaders further said that the party does not believe in politics of revenge. They claimed that apart from some isolated incidents involving angry individuals on August 5, no major violence occurred in Ishwarganj. They also claimed that no BNP leaders or activists were involved in any unpleasant incidents during that period. Rather, they said BNP activists played a role in ensuring the security of minority families and political opponents.

They alleged that during the previous Awami League government, BNP leaders and activists were unable to stay at their homes normally due to false cases and attacks. They said many Awami League activists are currently moving freely, which would not have been possible if BNP believed in retaliatory politics.

Regarding allegations of looting at “Spark Vision Limited”, a factory and warehouse owned by former Member of Parliament Mahmud Hasan Sumon in the Rahmatganj area, BNP leaders said the incident that took place late Friday night was completely planned and intended to damage the government’s image. They claimed that neither BNP nor any of its leaders and activists were involved in the incident.

Those present at the press conference included Upazila BNP Joint Conveners Atikur Razzaq Bhuiyan Hira, Sharif Zaidi, Shahjahan Joypuri, Municipal BNP Convener Saidul Haque, Member Secretary Nure Alam Jiku, Joint Conveners Haidar Ali, Mehedi Hasan Rubel, Salahuddin Khurram, Nurunnabi, and Sujon.

Also present were Mymensingh North District Jubo Dal Organizing Secretary Aminul Islam Mintu, Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal Acting President Rafique, General Secretary Kamal Hossain Sarker, Upazila Krishak Dal Member Secretary Mozammel Hossain, Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Farhad Hossain Chakdar, Member Secretary Harun-Or-Rashid, Joint Convener Rony Rahman, Municipal Chhatra Dal Convener Tarek Afroz Nowsad, Member Secretary Redwan Ahmed Rizon, along with leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations.
