Diplomatic Correspondent: The Indian Navy Ship INS Sunayna arrived at the Port of Chattogram today, Friday (08-05-2026), for a three-day courtesy visit to Bangladesh. Upon the ship’s arrival, Commander of Chattogram Naval Area, Chief Staff Officer, along with senior naval officials, welcomed the ship’s commanding officer, officers, and sailors. During the welcome ceremony, a well-decorated naval band performed traditional music to honor the ship’s arrival. Representatives from the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, along with senior officers of the Bangladesh Navy, were also present for the occasion.
Prior to docking at Chattogram, the Indian Navy ship INS Sunayna was warmly received by the Bangladesh Navy ship Ali Haider when it entered Bangladesh’s territorial waters.
During its stay in Bangladesh, the commanding officer of the visiting ship, along with the Naval Advisor from the Indian High Commission, will pay courtesy calls on the Commander of Chattogram Naval Area, Commander of the Bangladesh Navy Fleet, the Area Superintendent of the Dockyard, and the Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority. As part of the itinerary, officers and sailors of the visiting ship will tour the Bangladesh Navy training facilities and ships, as well as visit important historical and tourist sites in Chattogram. In return, Bangladesh Navy officers and sailors will also have the opportunity to visit the Indian Navy ship.
This courtesy visit will foster an opportunity for professional exchanges between the naval forces of both countries, further strengthening the existing bilateral ties between Bangladesh and India. It is expected that the Indian Navy Ship will depart Bangladesh’s territorial waters on 10th May 2026.
