Bangladesh, Nepal Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation, Trade and Connectivity

Diplomatic Correspondent: Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, paid a courtesy call on Shishir Khanal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal on Thursday, where the two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation across key sectors.

During the meeting, Ambassador Rahman conveyed warm congratulations and best wishes from the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh to the newly appointed Nepali Foreign Minister and expressed Bangladesh’s readiness to work closely with Nepal under his leadership.
‎The discussions focused on a broad range of issues of mutual interest, including trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, food security, and hydropower cooperation. Both sides emphasized the importance of finalizing the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to unlock greater economic opportunities and boost bilateral commerce.

‎Foreign Minister Khanal highlighted the importance of establishing direct air connectivity between Pokhara and Cox's Bazar to enhance tourism, strengthen people-to-people contacts, and promote regional connectivity.
‎Ambassador Rahman also proposed the formulation of a comprehensive roadmap framework aimed at fully harnessing the potential of bilateral engagement in priority sectors. Referring to the strong electoral mandate and public support enjoyed by the current leadership in Bangladesh, he noted that this presents a timely opportunity for both countries to review and elevate existing cooperation to a new level.

‎in this context, the Ambassador stated that under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh remains committed to enhancing momentum and synergies with Nepal in pursuit of shared economic development, regional peace, and prosperity.
