New guidelines for all banks in the country

News Desk:Bangladesh Bank has issued new instructions to all banks in the country to be careful in saving electricity and energy in offices. This step has been taken considering the threat of disruption in energy supply due to global geopolitical instability.

The circular issued on Wednesday (March 11) has given several instructions on the use of electricity and energy in the head offices, branches and sub-branches of the banks. Banks have been asked to use electrical appliances, lights, fans and AC only as needed. Instructions have been issued to increase the use of daylight and AC temperature should not be lowered below 25 degrees Celsius.

The circular said, use of official vehicles should be limited and personal and institutional travel should be reduced as well as officials should be encouraged to use public transport or car-sharing. Restrictions on generator fuel consumption and regulation of unnecessary decorations and use of electronic display boards have also been ordered.

Bangladesh Bank officials said, due to uncertainty in the global energy market, this step has been taken to ensure efficient use of electricity and energy in the financial sector.

Furthermore, earlier directives regarding efficient use of electricity and energy issued on September 7, 2022 have also been directed to be strictly followed.
