Sports Desk: Despite spending more than a decade in the national team, Liton Das is yet to return to form in white-ball cricket. His performance in both ODI and T20 formats has been disappointing in recent times. This right-handed batsman has not been able to attract attention even in domestic cricket.
Nevertheless, Liton got a place in the squad for the recently concluded ODI series against Sri Lanka. But after being dismissed for a duck in the first match of the series, he was dropped from the team. Young batsman Shamim Hossain Patwary took his place in the playing XI for the next two matches.
After the loss in the third ODI, captain Mehedi Hasan Miraj explained the reason behind Liton's omission in the press conference. He said, "Look, the thing we thought about was the team combination. We played Shamim Patwary in place of Liton and we needed a sixth bowler there. That's why the team management decided to play Shamim."
Miraj is optimistic about the current team made up of youngsters. According to him, if given time, these youngsters will play well one day. He said, our team is still young, some players are new. Of course, we always think positively. We need time. If we give them (the new players) a chance, maybe one day they will play well.
It is worth noting that Liton's long-standing off-form has now become a big question in the team selection. However, only time will tell whether this experienced cricketer, who is trusted by the BCB, will be able to turn around again.
