News Desk: The government has allocated Tk 11 crore 8 lakh 53 thousand 630 to help 5,310 churches in the country on the occasion of Christmas (December 25), the biggest religious festival of Christians. In each of these churches in 62 districts of the country, a total of 2,855 metric tons of rice has been allocated at the rate of 500 kg.

This allocation of cash as relief from the Department of Disaster Management has recently been sent to the Deputy Commissioners. According to the Department of Disaster Management, rice is distributed to the church every year on the occasion of Christmas. Last year, 2,456 tonnes of rice was distributed in 4,917 churches in 62 districts. Each church was given 500 kg of rice.

But this time the government is distributing the same amount of rice as the stock of rice has decreased. The price of rice per tonne has been fixed at Tk 44,006. As such, each church will get Rs 22,373 as the price of 500 kg of rice.

According to the allotment letter, the deputy commissioner will pay the upazila wise cash considering the number, size, size, financial capacity / affluence / poverty and other related issues of the church under his district and will keep the account for audit. If the number of churches is less, the unspent money has to be deposited in the government treasury as per the rules.
