International Desk: Four people were killed in a gun attack in the United States. Three of the dead were police officers. Five more people were shot and injured in this incident.

This incident of gun attack and death occurred in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, on Monday (April 29) evening local time. These police officers went there to arrest a man for possession of a firearm. The British media BBC reported this information in a report on Tuesday (April 30).

Three law enforcement officers were shot and killed while serving a warrant in Charlotte, North Carolina, and five others were injured, officials said. At least one of the suspected attackers was found dead in the front yard of a barricaded home, police said. This incident of firing and gunfire lasted for about three hours. Authorities said two gunmen were involved in the attack.

The injured officers are part of a task force led by the US Marshals Service. According to the BBC, these police officers were trying to arrest a felon for possession of a firearm when the gunfight broke out on the streets of suburban Charlotte. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said at a news conference that officers fired at an assailant in the front yard, then more shots were fired at them from inside the home. More than two hours after the attack began in a residential area in the east of the city on Monday, gunfire was still going on.

The incident later ended when police raided the house on Galway Drive. Two other people inside the house along with the suspect are being questioned, police said. Meanwhile, the US Marshals Service confirmed in a statement that one of their officers was killed in the operation. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said the two officers killed were members of the state's Department of Adult Corrections. In a post on social media platform X, he said, 'Our condolences go out to the families and colleagues of the officers killed in today's brutal attack.

Meanwhile, a police officer of the city is under treatment in the hospital in critical condition. Police have not yet released the names of any officers injured or the suspects involved in the incident. However, several schools in the vicinity were placed on lockdown during the raid and siege. Nearby residents were told to evacuate and nearby roads were closed to allow ambulances to come and go. Eyewitness Tyler Wilson told CBS News he was working at home when the incident happened.

The suspect was then heard yelling at the police to come out of his house. "After that, what happened was just chaos," he said. There was firing from both sides. We had SWAT here, and the US Marshals put snipers in our bedroom. There was direct firing for about 30 minutes. "He is deeply saddened by the shooting of Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers and US Marshals today," Mayor V. Lyles of Charlotte said in a statement.
