International Desk: A mass grave filled with the bodies of at least 65 migrants has been found in Libya. The mass grave was found in southwestern Libya. The mass grave was discovered after at least 60 migrants drowned in the Mediterranean Sea in a rubber dinghy off the coast of Libya.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) expressed surprise at the discovery of this mass grave, saying that it is not yet known under what circumstances they died and which country they are citizens of. However, they are thought to have died while being smuggled through the desert to the Mediterranean. Libya is investigating the matter.

IOM called on the Libyan authorities and other UN agencies to recover the bodies, identify them and return the remains to the families. An IOM spokesperson said that in every case of disappearance and loss of life, bereaved relatives search for their loved ones. Wants to know about them or accepts the loss.

This tragic incident has brought to the fore the need for concerted action against migrant smuggling and to focus on legal migration routes. The IOM previously said earlier this month that 2023 saw the highest number of migrant deaths since records of refugee deaths began a decade ago. At least 8 thousand 565 migrants have died on the way to different routes worldwide.
