International Desk: Israel and Hamas are discussing a cease-fire in Gaza with mediators in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Israel is seeking more weapons from its ally the United States to attack Gaza amid the ceasefire talks. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant is expected to go to Washington on Sunday with a request for more weapons for his country. US media Axios reported this information in a report citing two Israeli and US officials who did not want to be named. According to the media report, the Israeli minister will ask the United States for a quick supply of weapons. According to the Axios report, Gallant told US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on the phone that the weapons will not only include short-term requests related to Israel's war in Gaza. Rather, it will also include long-term purchases such as the F-35 and F-15 fighter jets.

Earlier on Thursday, Israel submitted a written assurance to the US State Department regarding the use of weapons. It said weapons obtained from the United States were not being used in Gaza in violation of international law, as part of a new national security memorandum issued by Biden last February.
