Due to lack of adoption, the administration returned the child to the mother

Kurigram Correspondent:  In Bhurungamari of Kurigram, a father adopted a one-year-old girl child to another person citing the reason of scarcity. After learning about the matter, the local administration immediately rescued the newborn and returned him to his mother's arms. The newborn was returned to his mother's arms on Saturday (February 17) evening. The incident took place in Ganairkuti village of Banga Sonahat union of the upazila. Maryam Begum (30), wife of Shafiqul Islam, son of Mofazzal Hossain of that village, gave birth to a daughter a day ago on Friday (February 16).

It is reported that the 1-day-old child was handed over to a neighbor's cousin on Saturday morning for fear of not being able to support the child in a poor family. This is the fifth child of the couple. However, the local administration said that they did so due to natural reasons. Earlier they also adopted their second child.

Shafiqul Islam, the father of the newborn, said, 'We got married about 13 years ago. The first child was born after one year of marriage. A few years later another son was born. Then my wife got typhoid fever. After that the wife became somewhat mentally unbalanced. A few days later, another daughter was born and she was adopted by a neighbor. A fourth daughter was born the following year.

That girl is now 3 years old. After that, when the fifth child was born last Friday, on Saturday morning, I gave it to the uncle to give it to a childless cousin. Shafiqul also said, 'I work as a stone breaker at Sonahat land port. I have no room to stay. Stay in other people's house. With this meager income, it is not possible for me to treat my sick wife, support my three children and run the household expenses.

Therefore, I was forced to hand over the treasure of the chest to others. Bhurungamari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Golam Ferdous said that after learning about the matter, the newborn was immediately rescued and returned to his mother's arms. Earlier they also adopted one of their children. They did so because of their nature. They have been told that if you adopt your child, you must make arrangements to give it legally. The local chairman has been told not to do so in exchange of money.
