42 thousand kg of vegetables sold in one day!

Gazipur representative: At least 42 thousand kg of vegetables are sold in a day in Barmi market of Sreepur upazila of Gazipur. Wednesday of the week is market day. All the vegetables that are imported come from various areas including Gafargaon, Pagla, Tangabo in the neighboring district of Mymensingh.

These vegetables are also imported from different areas of Kapasia upazila of the district. About 200 workers are engaged in the import and sale of vegetables at the market. Farmers are very profitable in the sale of the current vegetable season.

A huge supply of winter vegetables tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, beans, glass bananas etc. is the scene every Wednesday in the Burmese market. Lately, strawberries and bukli are cultivated in some areas of Barmi Union of Sreepur. These foreign fruits are also imported in the Burmese market. Tomatoes and potatoes have been the most important imports in the last few markets. All types of vegetables in the market are also claimed to be poison-free.

Vegetables are supplied to the market from 5 am. These products come in at least 6 trawlers in every haat. Each trawler is loaded with at least 100 cages of products. Average weight per cage is 70 kg. In all, 42 thousand kg of raw vegetables are sold in the Burmese market. The retail traders of the nearby huts bought these products at wholesale prices.

Abdus Chattar, farmer of Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh, said, I have been working in agriculture for 20 years. I have been bringing raw vegetables to Burmese market for 15 years every week. Selling, bringing back from land. A different number of caged vegetables arrive each week. We sell in Burmese market. This year sales are better than other years. We are profitable. Market sales are good. Bean cage holds 75 kg, potato 70 kg, tomato cage holds 80 kg.

Shamsuddin, the businessman of Barmi market, said that potatoes and tomatoes are picked up from the trawler in Danga. Two months more work is required in winter. Other times I work in the market. One and a half hundred workers like me earn a living by engaging in this work.

Farid Mia, farmer of Tangabo area of ​​Gafargaon said, We have been doing agriculture for 20 years. This time the production is less but the price is good so it is profitable. I sell tomatoes for three months. Other times we sell shrimp, bitter gourd, chichinga and other vegetables. We sell vegetables throughout the year. 8 farmers hire a trawler. 1 per kg transport fare and 6 per cent handling charges. 4/5 trawlers per haat come to Burmese market.

Retailer Mamun Sarkar said, 150 workers work to lift goods. A month and a half ago, it had to be bought at the rate of 20 taka per kg. Now you have to buy tomatoes for 30 to 35 taka.

Jalal Uddin, shopkeeper of Barmi Bazar, said, I sell goods one day a week. Every Wednesday we sell goods worth 700,000 taka. All the goods that come here are poison free.

Vegetable worker Al Amin said, 1 thousand, 1.5 thousand taka is available daily. The family has to run by working as a laborer in Barmeer market.

Humayun Kabir (Japanese), a resident of the market, said that the history of the Burmese market is very old. It is a traditional market of Gazipur district. This market has expanded since the Mughal period. On every day of the market, vegetables piled up on the banks of Shitalakshya. About half a ton of vegetables come from different areas, especially from Gafargaon and Pagla areas of Mymensingh on the Barmir Hatabar Wednesday. Wholesale is sold in this market from 5 am to 10 am. Many people come from far and wide to see the market scene.

Altaf Hossain, the owner of Russell Enterprises, said that most of the vegetable products come from Gafargaon, Pagla, Tangabo areas of Mymensingh. At least 6 trawlers bring these products on every Wednesday market day. Each trawler comes with 100 cages. An average of 70 kg of product is held per cage. Most of the time there is garbage in the market. When the administration monitored cleanliness and traffic congestion, wholesalers would come from outside. It would have sold and fetched higher prices.
