Additional IGP SM Ruhul Amin joined Anti-Terrorism Unit

News Desk: On Wednesday (September 7), the police took charge as the head of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), a specialized branch of the police formed to combat militancy and terrorism.

Additional IGP of Police SM Ruhul Amin. Honest, talented and efficient police officer SM Ruhul Amin secured 1st rank in 12th BCS batch police cadre.

He joined Bangladesh Police as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on January 20, 1991. During his illustrious career he served as ASP in Police Headquarters, Dinajpur, Rangamati, Comilla and as Additional Superintendent of Police in Sylhet, 7 APBN, Police Staff College, Dhaka and Naoga districts. He served with credit as Superintendent of Police in Rajbari, Jhalkathi and Sylhet districts and as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Chittagong Metropolitan Police.

He served as Additional DIG in Chittagong Range. As DIG, he served with competence and reputation as Railway Range, Dhaka, Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Police Headquarters, Dhaka DIG Media & Planning and Human Resources. He was serving as Additional IGP (Logistics and Asset Acquisition) at Police Headquarters, Dhaka before taking charge of ATU. He also served as Additional IGP (Human Resource and Management) and Additional IGP (Finance and Development) at Police Headquarters, Dhaka.

He obtained his master's degree from the International Relations Department of Dhaka University. He has received professional higher training in various countries including Bangladesh, USA, China, Italy, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Singapore. He served in UN peacekeeping missions in Angola, Ivory Coast, Kosovo and South Sudan. It should be noted that he is the son of a noble Muslim family of Gopalganj district.
