Police officer Khandkar Labani's 'suicide' in Magura, body of former bodyguard recovered in morning

His parents hanged him at Sarangdia village of Sreepur upazila of Magura on Wednesday, July 20 at around 11 o'clock in the night with a hanging fan. Later, when the people of the house realized the matter, Khandkar immediately took Labani to the hospital, where the doctor on duty at the hospital declared her dead. Meanwhile, on Thursday, July 21st, at around six in the morning, Magura Police Line Constable Mahmudul Hasan (23) committed suicide with a weapon issued in his name. The bullet-riddled body was recovered from the roof of the police barracks. His home is Pipulbaria village of Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia. He was transferred from Khulna to Magura a month and a half ago. On the other hand, Khandkar Labani was working as ADC of Khulna Metropolitan Police Intelligence Division. He came to Magura on vacation two days ago. Magura Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zahirul Islam told reporters this afternoon that Constable Mahmudul Hasan was transferred to Magura a month and a half ago. Before this he was working as a bodyguard of ADC Khandkar Labani of Khulna Metropolitan Police. It is yet to be confirmed whether the two incidents are linked. But this much is certain, both committed suicide. The police are investigating to find out the reason behind the suicide of the two. Apart from this, the legal process is ongoing. According to the police, Khandkar Labani's house is in Baralidah village of Sreepur upazila of Magura. Her husband Tarek Abdullah is working as Assistant Director (AD) of Bangladesh Bank. He is suffering from cancer and is currently undergoing treatment in India. Additional Superintendent of Police of Magura Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said on the phone that Khandkar Labani tried to commit suicide by twisting the curtain with the ceiling fan of the house at around 12 o'clock yesterday night. Realizing the matter, the family members rescued him and took him to Sripur Upazila Health Complex. There the doctor declared him dead. Khandaker Shafiqul Azam, father of police officer Khandaker Labani, told reporters today, "There was a conflict between their husbands and wives due to misunderstandings for quite some time. Because of this they were avoiding each other. She committed suicide due to this conflict between husband and wife. He has tried to commit suicide before. On the other hand, regarding the constable, the Additional Superintendent of Police said that it is believed that Mahmudul committed suicide with a shotgun issued in his name after returning to the barracks early in the morning. Hearing the gunshots, others went and found him dead. The bullet entered through his muzzle. However, it is not yet known why he committed suicide. Mahmudul Hasan's father. Ejazul Haque Khan is working as Constable of Chuadanga District Police. Today afternoon, he said, 'My son joined the police two years and four months ago. Before coming to Magura a month and a half ago, he was working in Khulna Metropolitan. I last spoke to him on the phone at around 8:30 pm yesterday. He said he was on duty at Jessore Road. Talk to him casually and jokingly. But I don't understand why he committed suicide.
