International Desk: Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been sworn in as the 17th President of the Philippines. He replaces outgoing leader Rodrigo Duterte. According to the BBC, he made his debut in a colorful program in Manila. International analysts say this is an unprecedented return for the political family Marcos. His son Marcos Jr. returned to power after the overthrow of dictator Ferdinand Marcos, who had been in power for two decades after the popular uprising of 1967. The leader won the election by a huge margin last month. Marcos Jr. was sworn in at noon local time at a ceremony at the National Museum. His wife and three sons were by his side at the time. The parade was accompanied by a parade of military personnel in uniform from the Philippines. In his first speech as president, Marcos thanked the people for the greatest electoral success in the history of democracy in the Philippines. For the first time since the 1979 revolution, a president has won a majority in the country. Sarah Duterte, the daughter of the outgoing president, has been sworn in as vice president.
