The meeting was attended by Baroness Lola Young of Hornsy, co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Ethics and Sustainability in Fashion.

Also present on the occasion were BGMEA Vice President Miran Ali, Director Abdullah Hill Rakib and Managing Director of Sasha DenimSlimit Shams Mahmud.

BGMEA President Farooq Hasan briefed the meeting on the unique achievements of Bangladesh's garment industry in workplace safety, sustainable development and ethical production. He spoke in support of the US Alliance, but said that maintaining some independence was important.

He also highlighted the future priorities set by Bangladesh's apparel to maintain Bangladesh's reputation as a safe, sustainable and competitive destination for apparel sourcing in the world. In his presentation, Farooq Hasan pointed out that the industry is increasingly focusing on increasing the capacity of the garment industry to meet the demand of global brands and consumers, especially in product and market diversification, innovation and value addition and upgrading of technology.

The BGMEA President further noted that the rising cost of yarn, chemicals and other raw materials in the global supply chain has increased the cost of production of garment products.

In this context, he called on UK brands and retailers to raise prices, saying that no one could support lower prices for socially and socially productive production.

The BGMEA President called upon UK brands and retailers to strengthen their partnerships with Bangladeshi suppliers to enhance the capacity of Bangladeshi suppliers in developing and manufacturing high-end products.

The buyers expressed their deep satisfaction over the presentation of the garment industry in Bangladesh and reaffirmed their commitment to sourcing from Bangladesh.
