According to the people involved in the project, the work of pitch casting will start at the end of next October. This work may take up to three months. The bridge contractor China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC) has informed the bridge department that they will complete the work by April 30. All in all, it is possible to open the Padma Bridge to traffic in May.

However, the bridge department said, the timing will be fixed after discussions with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

It may be mentioned that on 12 December 2015, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction of the main bridge. According to the progress report of the project, the work of the entire project has been completed by last July, just over 6 percent. The work of the main bridge has been completed about 94 percent.

According to the latest revised project proposal, the project is expected to be completed by June next year. Even then, the duration of the project will be one year. However, if there is any defect in the bridge at that time, it is scheduled to be repaired and the contractor's debt will be paid.
