International Desk: KP Sharma Oli has been re-appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal despite losing the confidence vote. He returned to the PM's post after opposition parties failed to prove a single majority in parliament.

According to PTI, KP Sharma Oli lost the confidence vote in Parliament last Monday. But as other opposition parties failed to prove their majority, President Vidya Devi on Thursday re-appointed Oli, 69, as prime minister. The President's Office has also issued a press release in this regard. KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the political party CPN-UML. Oli has been appointed prime minister as the leader of the country's largest political party after failing to prove a single majority in parliament, according to a rule in Nepal's constitution.

The confidence vote was held in the lower house of Nepal's parliament on Monday, according to the Kathmandu Post, a Nepali media outlet. 232 lawmakers voted in the 271-seat council. Of them, 93 voted for Oli and 124 voted against. And 15 lawmakers abstained. Prime Minister Oli needed 136 votes to win the confidence vote. The appointment of the Prime Minister has been discussed and criticized in Nepal for some time.

The country's president's office set a deadline of 9pm local time on Thursday to form a coalition government. But as no two political parties failed to form an alliance within the stipulated time, Oli was officially announced as prime minister.

Oli formed the government in Nepal on February 15, 2016. Oli formed the government with the support of lawmakers from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center). He is the country's first elected prime minister since the new constitution was adopted.
