Actress Shami Kaiser acquitted of defamation suit

Entertainment Desk: Actress Shami Kaiser has been acquitted in a Tk 100 crore defamation case for calling journalists 'thieves'. Accepting the final report given by the PBI, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder acquitted him of the case.

According to sources in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Sunday (March 7), the final report of the case was scheduled for March 4. The judge accepted the final report and acquitted Shami Kaiser of the case.

Earlier on February 3, PBI inspector Lutfar Rahman submitted the report in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder. The PBI submitted a report requesting him to be excused from the case as he could not find a witness in the case.

PBI inspector Lutfar Rahman told the media that no witness was found while investigating the case. As a result, I have released the final report by releasing Shami Kaiser. On November 25, 2019, the editor of the Students Journal BD Mia Md. Nuzhatul Hachan objected to the police report.

Following the hearing, the court directed the PBI to re-investigate the case. Later on October 24, 2020, the case was not found to be true, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman submitted a report in the court of the investigation officer of the case Shahbagh Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mahbubur Rahman. In the report, Mahbubur Rahman mentioned that there was no defamatory incident in the statement of Shami Kaiser.

Nuzhatul Hachan filed the defamation suit on April 30, 2019, in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor. The court accepted the plaintiff's statement and directed the Shahbagh Police Station Inspector (OC) to investigate and submit a report.

Two mobile phones of Shami Kaiser were stolen from the opening ceremony of e-commerce based tourism site 'Bindu 365' on April 24, 2019, at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Auditorium of the National Press Club.

In addition to the 50 cameramen, more than 100 people and law enforcement officials were present at the event. In this regard, Shami Kaiser complained that the journalists had stolen mobile phones. He also had his bodyguards search the bodies of journalists.

When anyone wanted to get out of the scene, the security guards of Shami Kaiser called them 'thieves'. The journalists were outraged. They expressed their displeasure at the ceremony.

Later, it was seen from the video footage taken by the journalists on camera that one of the lighting workers who came to the event stole two smartphones. After watching the video footage, Shami Kaiser expressed his "regret" to the journalists.
