The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to 120 BNP leaders and activists in a bus burning case

News Desk: The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to 120 leaders and activists, including BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, in a case of arson at various places in the capital during the Dhaka-16 by-election.

They have been granted bail till January 5. Wednesday (November 18) High Court Justice. Habibul Gani and Justice. A bench comprising Riazuddin Khan granted them bail. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, legal secretary of the BNP and Md. Mir Helal. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal told reporters that more than 100 BNP leaders and activists came to the High Court this morning to seek anticipatory bail in 13 cases of burning buses in different parts of the capital on November 12, the day of the Dhaka-16 by-election. The court later granted them bail. He has also been asked to file bail in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. Earlier on November 15, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, the BNP's legal secretary, applied for bail on behalf of the leaders at the relevant branch of the High Court.

BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP candidate in Dhaka-17 constituency Jahangir Hossain, BNP mayoral candidate of Dhaka South City Corporation Ishraq Hossain, Chhatra Dal central president Fazlur Rahman Khokon, Juba Dal general secretary Iqbal Hossain Omal and Chhatra Dal sought anticipatory bail from the High Court. 120 leaders and activists of different levels of Dhaka metropolis including general secretary. Barrister Kaiser Kamal said cases have been filed against more than 700 workers, including 37 senior BNP leaders. One of the accused in these cases is Ishraq Hossain, who is in isolation. But he has been accused in the case of burning the car. Another is candidate Jahangir Hossain. He has been busy with election work in Uttara. But he has been made the main accused in Khilkhet police station.

During the by-election of Dhaka-17 constituency on November 12, fire broke out in different parts of the capital in the afternoon. A total of 13 cases have been registered in different police stations in the capital over the incident. About 600 BNP leaders and activists of different levels were accused in these cases.
