Bhairav ​​Ashuganj 1 killed in trawler sinking in Meghna river

Brahmanbaria Correspondent: The rescue operation has started again since Saturday morning after the trawler overturned in Meghna river in the area between Bhairab of Kishoreganj and Ashuganj of Brahmanbaria.

Four divers of the fire service started the rescue operation around 8 am on Saturday, but the missing eight people were not found until 10 am. Deputy Director of Kishoreganj Fire Service Enamul Haque said that three people from Kishoreganj and one diver from Bhairab participated in the rescue operation. So far no body has been recovered. He said that the activities of the diving team will continue until the bodies of the missing persons are recovered.

Six people were reported missing by the fire service yesterday. However, after talking to the relatives today, it was reported that a total of eight people, including two others, are missing in this incident.

Going to the surface, it can be seen that the relatives of the missing persons waiting on the banks of the Meghna river are crying. They are waiting for when their loved one will be rescued.

Lutfur Rahman, uncle of Narsingdi Model College student Anika Akhter, who went missing in the trawler dive, said that Anika came to visit her aunt's house in Bhairab on Friday. From there, he went for a boat trip with his girlfriend Ruba. When the trawler overturned due to the impact of the bulkhead, Ruba managed to swim to the shore but Anika drowned. Anika's house is in Darikandi area of ​​Belab upazila of Narsingdi. So far the divers have not been able to recover the body of Anika or anyone else.

Inspector KM Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, in-charge of Bhairav ​​Naval Police Outpost, said that the two people in the bulkhead have been detained for questioning. Legal action will be taken after verifying whether this bulkhead is responsible for the accident. Azizul Haque Rajon, station officer of Bhairab Bazar Fire Service, said that the accident took place near pillar number three of the Ashuganj-Bhairab railway bridge around 6 pm on Friday. A woman named Subarna was killed. After the accident, 12 people managed to swim to the shore, but eight people went missing. Among them are Constable Sohail Rana (32) of Bhairav ​​Highway Police Station, his wife Mousumi Akhtar (25), infant daughter Mahmuda (7) and son Raisul (5) among them. A diesel engine powered trawler with about 20 passengers from Bhairab went to Charsonarampur area of ​​Brahmanbaria's Ashuganj. The casualty occurred when the trawler sank after colliding with a sand-bearing bulkhead on its way back from there.
