World Water Day celebrated in Jamalpur

Jamalpur Correspondent: World Water Day was celebrated in Jamalpur with the theme 'Water for Peace'. In order to highlight the significance and importance of the day to the public, a procession was taken out from the city's freedom fighter Abdul Aziz square. It was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Shitesh Chandra Sarkar.

The procession, held at 10:30 am on Friday, ended at the office of the Deputy Commissioner after walking down the main road of the city.

Jamalpur Water Development Board Executive Engineer Md. took part in a short discussion at the end of the procession. Rafiqul Islam, President of Jamalpur Online Journalist Network and Director of Human Resources Development Department of Unyanan Sangha Jahangir Salim, Jamalpur Municipality Councilor Shahinur Islam, Emdadul Haque Jiban, General Secretary of CAB District Branch Sajjad Hossain and others.

Hundreds of people including representatives of government, non-governmental organizations, public representatives, journalists participated in the procession organized by the District Administration and Water Development Board Jamalpur.

Speakers said that the use of underground water should be reduced and the use of surface water should be increased. In addition to the use of existing laws to stop water pollution, public awareness should be increased. The natural flow of water without filling open water bodies including rivers, canals, and bils should be kept safe for fishing and aquatic life. Public awareness should also be raised on the use of bottled water. Using water repeatedly in plastic and polythene containers poses health risks to the human body. Therefore, the speakers expressed the opinion that it has become the moral responsibility of all circles to create mass awakening in this matter.
