Truck movement on the highway will be closed for 6 days during Eid

News desk: On the occasion of upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, a new decision has been taken to ensure smooth travel of passengers by road. The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has said that the movement of trucks, covered vans and lorries will be stopped on the highway for the three days before Eid and the next three days.

This decision was taken in a meeting held at the Road Building on Thursday (March 21).

It was informed in the meeting that 155 potential traffic jam spots have been identified across the country. Trucks, vans and lorries will be closed on the highway for the previous 3 days and the next 3 days due to Eid. CNG stations will be open 24 hours for 7 days before Eid and the next 5 days. Besides, all the renovation work of the highway should be completed 7 days before Eid.

ABM Amin Ullah, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, said that for the smooth and safe travel of people at home during Eid, instructions have been given to stop the movement of trucks, covered vans and lorries on the highway for the three days before and the next three days of Eid. However, vehicles carrying essential foodstuffs, perishable goods, garments, medicines, fertilizers and fuel will be exempted.

He also said that the renovation of the highway should be completed seven days before Eid.

Nuri also said that 155 potential spots on highways have been identified for traffic jams this Eid. Among the possible 155 spots of highways identified for traffic congestion, 48 on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, 52 on North Bengal highway, 6 on Mymensingh highway, 41 on Dhaka-Sylhet highway and 8 spots on Dhaka-Paturia-Aricha highway are vulnerable.
