Dhaka, June 21 (CNI): The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to carry out sabotage or disrupt law and order in connection with the founding anniversary of the suspended Awami League.
The warning was issued on Sunday (June 21) at a press briefing held at the RAB-2 office in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, by RAB-2 Commanding Officer Naymul Hasan. The briefing was originally organized regarding the arrest of five suspected snatchers, where he made the remarks in response to journalists’ questions.
The RAB-2 commander said that based on intelligence information, a man known as “Maura Sohel” was arrested along with weapons. Following his information, two more individuals—Shafiqul Islam Sabuj and Russell—were detained. Later, another operation led to the arrest of two more suspects.
RAB sources said that Sohel has 14 cases filed against him, including charges of mugging and extortion, while the other two accused each have one case against them.
When asked about the security situation ahead of the Awami League’s June 23 founding anniversary, Naymul Hasan said, “If anyone attempts to disrupt law and order or create chaos using weapons, they will not be shown any leniency.”
He further said that RAB remains fully prepared to maintain overall law and order in the country and will take necessary measures to prevent any kind of criminal activity.
Law enforcement authorities also urged the public to cooperate in maintaining peace and order and requested citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
