Jobs Desk: In recent times, people have become concerned due to the outbreak of Measles and the risk of death. Vaccination programmes for measles are being disrupted due to a shortage of manpower. As a result, the government has decided to recruit 100,000 health workers.

According to data from the Directorate General of Health Services, at least 144 children died across the country between March 15 and April 11 with measles-like symptoms. Among them, 23 deaths have been confirmed as being caused by measles.

Public health experts believe that this situation has arisen due to the improper implementation of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) at the field level over the past few years. They stress that, along with regular vaccination, increased field supervision is now essential to strengthen children’s immunity.

Health Minister Sardar Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain said that there is a manpower shortage in various sectors, including health assistants, and the government is aware of this issue. He added that the process of recruiting 100,000 new personnel in the health sector has already begun to fill this gap.

He further stated that if recruitment is completed quickly, it will be easier to control the spread of infectious diseases like measles and achieve long-term vaccination targets.
