News Desk: Kamrul Huda, the BNP candidate from the Cumilla-11 constituency, has filed a petition in the High Court challenging the election result of Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, the Naib-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The petition will be heard on Monday (March 9) by a single High Court bench led by Justice Md. Zakir Hossain.
In this constituency, Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Naib-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, had been declared the winner. Earlier, more than 20 candidates had also filed petitions with the High Court.
The High Court accepted those petitions for hearing and ordered the preservation of the ballots and other necessary election materials related to those constituencies.
According to Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order, an Election Tribunal is formed in the High Court to hear election petitions filed against electoral irregularities. A single bench led by Justice Md. Zakir Hossain is currently hearing these petitions.
The cause list of the High Court Division shows that, along with other civil jurisdictions, this bench will receive and hear election petitions, rules, and related applications under the Representation of the People Order, 1972, as amended by the Representation of the People (Amendment) Ordinance, 2001.
