Sripur (Gazipur) Correspondent: The Sripur Upazila administration conducted a raid on an illegal adulterated fertilizer factory in Sripur, Gazipur, and seized nearly 30 tons of fake fertilizer and raw materials used in its production. The factory has been sealed.

The seizure took place on Wednesday (17 December) afternoon at a warehouse in Tepirbari village of Telihati Union, owned by local resident Sanjida Begum. The operation was carried out by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sajib Ahmed.

The owner of the factory, Md. Anarul Islam Alif (30), is the son of Md. Nawab Ali from Dhara village, Haluaghat Upazila, Mymensingh. Sanjida Begum, the warehouse owner, said that Alif had rented the warehouse on a monthly basis, and she was unaware whether adulterated fertilizer was being produced there. Multiple attempts to contact Alif by phone were unsuccessful.

Sripur Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Md. Mahbubul Alam said that, following a tip-off from local journalists, the agriculture department investigated an abandoned warehouse suspected of producing fake fertilizer. They found that soil and brick powder were being processed with a machine and packaged into bags labeled as various types of fertilizer, stored in large quantities.

According to officials, the seized items included:

  • Alif Gypsum – 10 tons

  • Power Bio Fertilizer – 4 tons

  • Shakti Zinc Plus – 3 tons

  • Glosing – 2 tons

  • Loose Gypsum – 2 tons

  • Brick powder – 2 tons

  • White soil – 5 tons

  • Roton Plus – 500 kg

  • Gypsum raw materials – 25 bags

  • Zinc raw materials – 11 bags

  • Diazinon – 100 kg

  • Additionally, two “Katun Basudin” units banned 20 years ago were recovered.

UNO Sajib Ahmed said, “Upon receiving information about the adulterated fertilizer factory, we seized nearly 30 tons of fake fertilizer and raw materials. These cannot be called fertilizer by any means—they are made from soil and brick powder and spread in the market as fertilizer.” He added that the factory operators fled after learning of the raid, the machinery was seized, and electricity connections were cut off.
