News Desk: Even if 100% students pass the higher secondary, more than 2 lakh seats of various higher education institutions will remain vacant. This will be due to the fact that at least 30 per cent students will enter the career after passing HSC and there will be enough seats in higher education institutions.

This information has been known by talking to the concerned. In 2019, 9 lakh 8 thousand 162 students passed HSC and equivalent examinations. In that year, 6 lakh 82 thousand 617 people were admitted in different universities, medical and undergraduate colleges and other institutions. Of these, at least 1 lakh students passed HSC last year. On the other hand, in 2019, there were 9 lakh 26 thousand 81 seats in different types of higher education institutions. Some universities admitted 1,413 more than the number of seats.

Even then 2 lakh 26 thousand 554 seats were vacant. The University Grants Commission (UGC) says that if 26 per cent students are admitted, then 10 lakh 11 thousand students could be admitted. And at present there are 13 lakh 20 thousand seats in higher education.

As far as the admission crisis is concerned, more than 2 lakh seats will remain vacant. In this context, UGC member Prof. Muhammad Alamgir said there would be no shortage of seats in higher education this year. First, not all students come to higher education. Last year also, students were admitted in 64% of the total seats, including the previous passes and the new passes. That is like 8 lakh 83 thousand. Again there are many of them who passed the previous year. Which will not be less than 4 percent. Second, almost all of the students who will be admitted after dropping out of the regulars will have access to higher education.

And if everyone who passes wants to be admitted, there will still be no crisis. Because, a significant part of the students who pass go to study abroad. He said the crisis would be to be admitted to the educational institution and subject of choice. In this case there will be intense competition. And the crisis of admission to the institution of choice and subject is everywhere. This is the image of the whole world. It is not solvable, it will never be solved. According to the UGC, there are 60,000 seats in 39 public universities in various institutions of higher learning. Besides, there are 2 lakh 3 thousand 75 seats in 95 private universities, 6 lakh 82 lakh 615 degree passes and graduations in various colleges under the National University, and 70 thousand seats in Fazil and Honors Madrasas under the Islamic Arabic University in the first year. 7,758 students were admitted in the open university last year. There are 440 seats in two international universities, 10,404 in government and private medical and dental colleges, and 23,330 seats in seven colleges affiliated to Dhaka University.

There are 720 seats in 4 engineering colleges, 620 in six textile colleges, 5,700 in public and private nursing and midwifery institutions, 654 in 14 marine and aeronautical colleges, 3,500 in various institutions affiliated to Dhaka and Rajshahi universities and in various institutions affiliated to Chittagong University. UGC member said. Muhammad Alamgir said, in the academic year 2020-21, admission tests will be held in 20 general and science and technology universities and 8 major agricultural universities in the country in a cluster system. The final decision on the cluster admission test at the University of Engineering and Technology will be announced this week. Out of 13 lakh 8 thousand 36 students who passed HSC and equivalent examination in 2020, 1 lakh 53 thousand 614 got GPA-5. GPA-4 to GPA-5 below 4 lakh 99 thousand 640 people, GPA-3.5 to GPA-4 below 3 lakh 4 thousand 144 people and GPA-3 to GPA-3.5 below 2 lakh 16 thousand 963 people. The minimum qualification for admission to 20 universities in the General, Science and Technology (GST) group is SSC or HSC. The minimum qualification for application is higher in Dhaka University, BUET and other big universities. Even if they pass more than 13 lakh, the students who get the highest GPA of 3 will be able to fight for admission.

The number of such students is about 11 lakh 75 thousand 461 thousand. Due to this, it seems that the fight for admission in good quality universities will be intense. However, low quality universities and colleges suffering from student drought will benefit. However, those concerned think that it is better to enter the career than to take higher education in these institutions.
