In Tangail, children are working in a brick kiln for a nominal wage

Tangail Correspondent: Thousands of children are working in brickfields in different upazilas of Tangail for nominal wages. These children from poor families are working day and night in the brick kiln for 50 to 60 rupees to earn money for the family. The number of child laborers is increasing day by day as the school is closed without crossing the boundaries. Among the various upazilas, more than one and a half thousand child laborers are working in more than one hundred brick kilns of Mirzapur upazila. Such a picture of child laborers has been seen in several brickfields.

Mirzapur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Office sources said 112 brickfields have been set up in the municipality and 14 unions. There are 92 brick kilns in the municipality, Mehera, Jamurki, Gorai, Latifpur, Tarafpur, Azgana and Banshtail Union. Workers from different districts including Sirajganj, Rangpur, Bogra, Kurigram, Dinajpur, Satkhira, Natore, Kushtia, Jamalpur and Sherpur are working in these brickfields. The children are working in the brick kiln with their parents. Most of them are 8-11 years old. Working day and night, these children get 50-60 taka.

Even after working hard, they have the impression of fatigue on one side and the smile on the other side for a little money. Child laborers said they had a lot of desire to study. Family without parents. Since the school was closed, they came with us to look for work in the brick field. What else can I do? Now we work in brick kilns for low wages. The same situation has been seen in different brickfields of the upazila including Baimhati, Deohata, Sohagpur, Dherua, Syedupar, Kodalia, Hatubhanga, Azgana, Banshtail, Tarafpur Talking about this with some people who came to work in the brick kiln.

According to them, the family is in need, so their future life is becoming uncertain and the unemployment problem is increasing in the country. In order to prevent child student storms, various non-governmental organizations as well as the government have to take various awareness programs for the parents and rescue these helpless children and ensure their education.

When contacted, Upazila Social Service Officer Mohammad Khairul Islam said that a list of children working in different brickfields could be collected and they could be assisted through a board meeting of the Department of Social Services. Abdul Malek said that due to the poverty of the family and the unawareness of the parents, the children of many families work hard in various factories and shops including brick kilns. The administration will take initiative to cooperate with these children in consultation and consultation with the higher authorities.
