News Desk: The accused girl has been granted bail in a defamation case of Tk 100 crore filed by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) against a female worker of private development agency Blast. According to the summons, the case was scheduled to be heard in the court on Thursday (January 14) and if he asked for bail, the wise judge granted him bail.
The case was supposed to be heard on that day but it was not. Advocate Faridul Alam, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge's Court, said this. The autorickshaw passenger later accused the BGB members of raping her. Many national and local media outlets also published reports in their online versions. With this there was an uproar.
The media along with the intelligence agencies quickly became active to know the truth of the incident. The woman was admitted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. But doctors at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital examined the woman NGO worker and found no signs of rape. Following this, the BGB filed a defamation suit against the woman in the court of Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah on November 10. Instructed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station to submit a detailed report.
Teknaf Police Station OC Hafizur Rahman said the police submitted the report to the court on November 22 (Sunday) in the light of the directive. The accused was asked to appear in court on January 14. The court granted bail to the accused as he appeared. Sajjadur Rahman, counsel for the plaintiff in the case, said that it was a bailable clause so the court granted bail if the accused appeared and applied for bail.
We believe that the accused will get appropriate punishment if the allegation is proved in the hearing. The accused woman did not speak to the media even though she appeared in the court. From the day of the case till now, the accused women NGO workers have been avoiding journalists. If a text message is sent, he does not reply. No official from Blast, an NGO, agreed to comment.
