Honest and selfless people should be given a chance in politics: Quader

News Desk: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has called for eradicating corruption and giving opportunities to honest and selfless people in politics. He made the call at a meeting in memory of the late footballer Badal Roy. On Saturday (December 26), Obaidul Quader joined the meeting via video conference from his residence.

Mentioning that Badal Roy was an honest and efficient footballer and organizer, Obaidul Quader said, "Many people think that Abahani means Awami League and Mohammedan means anti-Awami League but Badal Roy has proved that there is no politics in sports." Badal Roy was associated with Mohammedan from the very beginning of his playing career but he was a soldier of Bangabandhu's ideology in his heart, he said. Calling on the youth to be given opportunities in sports, the general secretary of the Awami League said, "If they do not get opportunities in sports, the youth may get involved in anti-social activities including drugs." Obaidul Quader lamented that some people are using sports federations to change their destiny for personal gain, to get out of it, to keep sports federations free from corruption.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the corona virus does not belong to any individual or group, so it is necessary to deal with the virus in a united manner, regardless of party affiliation. Awami League Advisory Council member Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Youth and Sports Secretary Harun Rashid and leaders of various federations and sports journalists, players and organizers were present at the meeting organized by the sports family.

Meanwhile, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Obaidul Quader expressed deep grief over the death of actor Abdul Quader. In a condolence message on Saturday (December 26), the minister conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul.
