Kubi Chhatra League lighting candles in protest of rape

KUBI Correspondent: Comilla University (KUBI) Chhatra League has held a candle lighting program to protest against violence and rape against women across the country.

They lit candles at the foot of the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the university campus at 7pm on Wednesday (October 7). Dhirendranath Dutta, Deputy Secretary for Human Resources, BCL, and Enayet Ullah, Joint General Secretary, BCL, spoke on the prevention of rape and violence against women. Hasan Bidyut, co-president of Kubi Chhatra League, Bayazid Islam Golpo, joint general secretary, Abu Saddat Mohammad Sayem and MM Hasan, organizing secretary, Nazmul Hasan Palash, vice-president of Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall, Khairul Bashar Sakib, joint general secretary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and many others. The speakers demanded speedy completion of the rape trial by forming a speedy trial tribunal. They said that women should be seen in the eyes of the people and violent attitudes towards women should be eliminated. Referring to the alarming rise in rape as the final stage of social degradation in the country, the speakers demanded that the death penalty for rape be ensured. They said the rapist should be considered on the basis of party and religion and should be brought to justice instead of compromising through local arbitration. Leaders and workers of the university branch Chhatra League and various hall branches were present in the program.
