JOB representative: The university authorities have sent a list of about 3000 thousand indigent students of Jagannath University (JU) for UGC's smartphone support. On Tuesday (September 1, 2020), the University's Registrar Engineer Md. Ohiduzzaman told the reporter about this information on his mobile phone.

Students and their parents are facing severe losses as public universities, like other educational institutions in the country, have been closed for a long time to protect students from coronavirus infection. A meeting was held between the Commission and the Vice-Chancellor at Zoom Cloud on 25 June 2020 with the intention of starting online education in public universities for the benefit of the students in this unfortunate situation. A letter was sent to the Minister of Education from the Commission to provide free data to the students with high speed internet facility and guarantee of Smartphone facility under Soft loan / Grants so that all the students can participate in the online educational activities based on the opinion of the Vice-Chancellors.

In order to ensure student participation in online learning activities, only those students who do not have the financial means to purchase the device are requested to send the exact list in parentheses ([email protected]) by e-mail by August 25, 2020.

In this regard, a notification signed by the Registrar Engineer Md. Ohiduzzaman and Deputy Registrar (Administration) Mohammad Mashirul Islam on August 16 was published on the official website of the University (August 16) to ensure participation of all students in online education. The exact list of students is requested to be sent to the Chairman of the respective Department / Institute along with the Office of the Registrar by 20/08/2020.

In this regard, the registered engineer of the university Md. Ohiduzzaman said in his mobile phone conversation, the university authorities have only made the list. They do not know whether the list will go to the government or not. The main thing is that the UGC has sent the list. It is not clear who will get the data facility, soft loan or smartphone. After sending the list from all the departments, we sent it together to UGC. UGC and students have not yet said what will be given, when or how many will be given.

UGC Chairman Prof. When contacted, Kazi Shahidullah said that the process of giving a loan to buy a smartphone is underway. We have already requested the list from the universities. We have received responses from many of them. It will take some more time to know the loan process for buying a smartphone. We have talked to the Ministry of Education. We have already talked to the Education Minister about the fund. The Ministry of Education will inform in the first two weeks of September. After the decision is taken at the UGC meeting, the smartphones will reach the hands of the students by the end of September. UGC member Professor Dr. has been given full responsibility for the matter. Dil Afroza Begum. The UGC chairman advised to contact him for details.

UGC member Professor Dr. about loans and accessories for buying smartphones. Dil Afroza Begum said, "We have asked the university for a list of students who do not have devices or cannot afford to buy them." The Ministry of Education will inform us about the loan in a week or two and they will also inform us about the process of giving it. The UGC will then take a decision through a meeting.
