A 139-year-old mosque caught fire in South Africa

International Desk: A terrible fire broke out in a mosque in South Africa. The 139-year-old mosque is located in Durban. A fire broke out at the mosque on Gray Street on Monday, local time. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire, which is one of the largest in South Africa.

Faisal Sulaiman, chairman of the South African Muslim Network, said the fire may have been caused by a fault in the electricity connection. Faisal Suleiman told AFP it was probably an accident. He ruled out the possibility of intentional arson.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Several videos of the fire have spread on social media. These videos show people gathering near the mosque. A fire is burning in a two-storey mosque building.

Many people have expressed their grief over the fire at this historic mosque on social media. About 7,000 people can pray together in this mosque.

The fire brigade has already been able to bring the situation under control. Emergency Department spokesman Robert Mackenzie told AFP the fire also damaged several other nearby buildings.

Many famous people have visited this mosque at different times. Strong anti-apartheid voices Nelson Mandela, British singer Yusuf Islam, boxing superstar Mohammad Ali visited the mosque.
